(Watertown) A registered dietitian and diabetes educator with Watertown Regional Medical Center was recently named as a finalist for the Monarch Award. Caitlin Rondello was in the running for the prestigious Caring and Community Award, given through ScionHealth, for her work and commitment to helping diabetic patients get and stay healthier.
The Monarch Award is ScionHealth’s highest annual award to honor its exceptional caregivers. It recognizes exceptional, highly skilled caregivers who consistently go above and beyond to deliver excellent patient care and to elevate the patient experience.
Co-worker and Director of Primary Care Karen Lucey nominated Rondello for the award. She says Rondello has been instrumental in helping their patient base by introducing continuous glucose monitoring devices and working with primary care providers and staff to significantly decrease the number of patients who do not meet their A1C number. She adds that, in doing this, she is not only helping their community get healthier but also improving the quality of care they provide.
In addition to being an outpatient diabetic educator, Rondello also works with inpatients who have been newly diagnosed or are struggling with diabetes and all patients looking to improve their nutrition for many different reasons. Hospital officials say she does a great job of following-up with patients, at all hours of the day, who need additional guidance or patients who need to know that someone is with them during their journey to a healthier life.
