Regional Jobless Numbers Improve

(Dodge County) Jobless claims in the region improved in the month of March.

The state Department of Workforce Development says the unemployment rate in Dodge County was 2.2-percent in the third month of 2023 which is down from the 2.6-percent the county saw in February. Last year, the number was 2.8-percent. Dodge County jumped one spot in the statewide unemployment ranking to 17th.

Columbia County improved its figure by four-tenths of a percent, going to 2-percent. The number last year was 2.9-percent.

Jefferson Countyโ€™s unemployment rate also reported a reported a four-tenths jump from February to March at 2.3-percent. In 2022, it was 3-percent.

Fond du Lac County went from 2.3-percent in February to 2-percent in March. A year ago, that figure was 2.7-percent.

Statewide unemployment numbers hit another record low last month at 2.5-percent. That beats the previous record set the month prior at 2.7-percent. The state’s total employment has also reached nearly 3-million people, beating the previous peak before COVID hit Wisconsin in January of 2020.
