Randolph Man Arrested in Child Exploitation Investigation After Online Tip

(RANDOLPH) A tip about suspected child sexual abuse material led investigators to a home in Randolph this week — and now a 24-year-old man is in jail as the case moves through court.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says its Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday at a residence in the Village of Randolph. The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted authorities to suspicious online activity.

During the search, deputies took the man into custody without incident. He was booked into the Columbia County Jail and is being held pending an initial appearance in Columbia County Circuit Court.

Prosecutors are expected to review possible charges that include 10 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of distributing obscene material depicting a person engaged in sexual contact with an animal.

Investigators seized several electronic devices from the home. The case remains under investigation, and additional charges are possible.

The Sheriff’s Office said its ICAC Task Force works with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation to track down people suspected of possessing or sharing child sexual abuse material. The Randolph Police Department and DOJ-DCI assisted in the search.
