Public Input Sought on Sheriff’s Office Accreditation

(JUNEAU) People in Dodge County have a chance to weigh in on how their sheriff’s office is doing.

A team of assessors will be in Juneau starting April 7 to review the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office as part of its reaccreditation process. The review looks at everything from policies and procedures to daily operations.

As part of that process, community members are invited to share feedback. The sheriff’s office will take public comments by phone on April 8 from 1 to 3 p.m., with each call limited to 10 minutes and focused on how well the agency meets state accreditation standards. The department is working to maintain accreditation it first earned in 2023 — a designation that signals it meets hundreds of professional standards for law enforcement.

Sheriff Dale Schmidt says that process matters for the people the office serves.

“Accreditation is essential to the work we do because it reinforces our commitment to professionalism, accountability, and public trust,” Schmidt said.

After the review, a statewide board will decide whether the sheriff’s office keeps its accredited status for another three years.
