Progress Being Made On Beaver Dam Hometown Plan Projects

(Beaver Dam) Several projects developed by Beaver Dam’s Community Action Plan Committee are progressing. Last year, members of the community formed seven sub-committees to develop an outline that would help guild the formation of the city’s next Comprehensive Plan. Their efforts resulted in the Hometown Plan.

City Administrator Nath Thiel says several members still meet regularly to ensure these projects move forward. He says one project involves partnering with the school district to install bike repair stations.

“We’ve created three locations…mostly towards our parks…Swan Park, Votech Park, and at Waterworks Park,” says Thiel. “We’re going to be working with the school district…we’re really excited. Their shop class is going to build these repair stations for us and then we’ll be able to install [them]. So we’ve order the equipment…so that’s underway.”

The stations will have a pump attached to them and some bike repair tools. There is no timetable yet on when they will be installed, but the goal is to have them up and running this year.

Thiel says the city has also contracted with MSA to conduct a multi-use trail analysis. Another key project outlined by the Action Plan Committee.

“Which will be very beneficial both in terms of…when [the Department of Transportation] they’re right now doing a Highway 151 conversation study as well as the Gold Star Trail continues to move along…we’re going to connect…we’re going to be able to integrate into that,” says Thiel. “Addressing a bunch of concerns…access across Highway 151…having multi-use trails throughout the city…connecting to the YMCA has always been a big push by the community.”

Thiel says the analysis will outline conflict points throughout the city. He notes that MSA will likely complete their study by early summer.
