(Portage) The Portage Fire Department and members of the community recently helped welcome a new fire truck. Fire Chief Troy Haase says the public came out to celebrate the arrival of the new Pierce Enforcer Engine.
He says following a short presentation the citizens helped firefighters push Engine 8 into the fire station for the first time. This pays homage to firefighters of the 1800โs who had to detach horses and push their equipment into the bay after a call.
Haase thanked the city council and mayor for their support in the purchase of the new engine. He also thanked the members of the department that have helped to research and design it. The fire chief says from this point forward, all new apparatus that the department gets will receive a push-in ceremony.
