Police: Animal Abuse, Neglect at Beaver Dam Home

(BEAVER DAM) 34 animals – alive and dead – were removed from a home in Beaver Dam. Now a 66-year-old woman and her 19-year-old granddaughter face misdemeanor neglect and abuse charges.

A social worker called the police in September after seeing dogs, cats, and other animals in squalid conditions. She said they were covered in feces and urine and needed food and medical attention. The social worker told police the smell in the home made her feel sick after less than five minutes.

Police received a search warrant, and with the help of Dodge County Humane Society staff, removed 14 dogs, six cats, and three rabbits from the home on West Mackie Street. They also found four dead birds, two dead kittens, two dead dogs, two dead rabbits, and a dead turtle.

The animals that survived are at the Dodge County Humane Society. The two women have initial court appearances on Nov. 24.
