TOWN OF WHITEWATER – A passenger was killed and several other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday, July 8, in Walworth County.
According to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received reports of the crash around 12:58PM Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 12 and County Highway P in the Town of Whitewater. Callers reported that multiple people were injured and the vehicles were blocking traffic.
A preliminary investigation found that a Toyota Highlander was traveling west on Highway 12 while a Ford Explorer was traveling east. Investigators say witness statements and the initial investigation indicate the Ford attempted to turn left onto County Highway P, crossing into the path of the oncoming Toyota and resulting in a head-on collision.
The passenger in the Toyota Highlander, identified only as a Town of Whitewater resident, was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by first responders.
The driver of the Toyota and all occupants of the Ford Explorer were transported by ambulance to local hospitals.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office says the crash remains under investigation.
The sheriff’s office thanked numerous agencies for assisting at the scene and extended its condolences to everyone affected by the crash.
