Pair From Beaver Dam Set for Plea Hearings in Animal Mistreatment Case

(BEAVER DAM) A Beaver Dam woman and her granddaughter — once set to face a jury this week — are now scheduled to enter pleas and be sentenced in a case involving dozens of animals found living in what investigators describe as filthy, unsafe conditions.

Glenann Yahnke, 66, and 19-year-old Brianna Yahnke were scheduled to begin a jury trial Wednesday. Instead, court records show both now have plea and sentencing hearings on the calendar.

Brianna Yahnke’s hearing is set for March 30. Glenann Yahnke’s is scheduled for April 10.

Prosecutors have charged both women with misdemeanor counts of intentionally mistreating animals and failing to provide proper shelter and sanitation.

Police say they removed 34 animals — both alive and dead — from a home on West Mackie Street in October after a social worker reported concerning conditions inside.

Investigators say dogs, cats and other animals were living in feces and urine without enough food or medical care.

According to the criminal complaint, officers and staff with the Dodge County Humane Society rescued 14 dogs, six cats and three rabbits. They also found several animals dead inside the home, including four birds, two kittens, two dogs, two rabbits and a turtle.

The surviving animals were taken to the Humane Society for care.
