With enough collective effort, the Beaver Dam High School football field could look way different, and be much more accessible, in the future.
Enter the Our Field, Out Future capitol campaign. As the campaign’s Facebook page reads, “We are seeking funds to install a state-of-the-art synthetic playing surface at Beaver Dam High School, which will benefit our community in so many ways and for many years to come”.
One of the driving forces behind this campaign is availability. As it stands, HH Derleth Field is used by the football and track-and-field teams with weather playing a critical role in field quality.
“There’s a lot of people that get kind of displaced because of some limitations with our current football field,” committee member Brock Linde said.
Existing issues include outdated track runways, drainage complications, crowning and other hurdles that prevent other teams from competing on the surface.
If the synthetic grass were to be installed, the following groups would be able to practice/play at the facility: football, boys soccer, girls soccer, band, physical education classes, baseball, softball and track and field.
Those who donate to the Our Field, Our Future campaign will have their names on a display around the stadium, similar to what fans can see when they enter the Beaver Dam baseball concourse.
