Oshkosh Robbery Leads to 15-Year Federal Sentence

(OSHKOSH) A late-night robbery at an Oshkosh gas station will keep a repeat offender behind bars for years.

Lorenzo Wood Jr., 59, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after admitting to an armed robbery at a Kwik Trip and illegally possessing a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorneyโ€™s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Investigators say just after midnight on Oct. 13, 2025, Wood walked into the Kwik Trip off Highway 41 on Jackson Street with a revolver, pointed it at a clerk and demanded money. The clerk handed over $170 before Wood left in a silver SUV.

Deputies tracked the vehicle and identified Wood using surveillance video, including his distinct walking pattern. A search of his home later turned up the revolver used in the robbery.

At sentencing, U.S. District Judge Byron Conway pointed to the impact on the clerk and Woodโ€™s long history of similar crimes. Court records show Wood has spent much of his adult life in prison for convenience store robberies.

The judge also noted Woodโ€™s age and health, saying he is likely to spend much of the rest of his life in federal prison.

After his release, Wood will be on supervised release for five years.

Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz credited deputies and technology, including camera systems, for helping solve the case. Federal prosecutors say the sentence sends a message that violent crimes involving firearms will be taken seriously.
