(Beaver Dam) Beaver Dam Police Officer Andy Brunet recently detailed his path to the department on Community Comment. He began his career working as an operations manager for a company in the Milwaukee area that dealt with heavy duty trucks and equipment, but the company eventually sold, and they let him go.
Brunet says he then applied for a job as a correctional officer in the Fond du Lac County Jail.ย
โI got hired,โ says Brunet. โIt was a great time, I really enjoyed it. It fulfilled, for me, the person to person interaction that I missed dealing with my customers all the time working on trucks.โ
Brunet says he dealt with working around 250 to 300 customers per day doing that job. The officer says the transition from the correctional facility to law enforcement was a natural one and a perfect fit.
โWhen I was at the jail, I had you know, a couple hundred people to talk to,โ Brunet says. And now, I have, like, several thousand people to talk to. I mean, at any given time there [is] probably 25,000 people in Beaver Dam that I can just rattle their ears off.โ
The officer says the most enjoyable part of his job is the community engagement aspect.
