Beaver Dam Women Accused Of Stealing From Local Residence

10/31/15 – Bond was set yesterday at $2,500 and $5,000 respectively for a mother and daughter accused of breaking into a Beaver Dam house.  41-year-old Catherine Kenevan and 18-year-old Kayla Kenevan, both of Beaver Dam, are charged with felony Burglary, misdemeanor Criminal Damage to Property, and misdemeanor Theft, all as a party to a crime.  According to the criminal complaint, the two women broke into a house on Fabisch Road and stole cash.  A neighbor, who is also the homeowner’s sister, called police when she saw the two acting suspiciously in her brother’s backyard.  Shortly after, officers arrested the two women in a car that was parked in a wooded area near the Dodge County Fairgrounds.  If they are found guilty on all charges, each faces up to 14 years in prison.  Catherine has a preliminary hearing on November 5 while Kayla’s is set for December 17.  As conditions of bond, the two Kenevans are not allowed to have contact with one other or leave the state.

Amish Community Has Arrived In Dodge County

10/31/15 – A new group has arrived in Dodge County.  During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Sheriff Dale Schmidt announced that a group of five or six Amish families recently moved to the Reeseville area.  He says this will mark the first Amish community in the county. According to Schmidt, there are rumors of them opening up a shop in the near future.  Schmidt advises drivers to watch out for their slower-moving horses and buggies when traveling near Reeseville.  Tied to his law of the month for October, Schmidt says those vehicles will have to display the same red and orange triangle as large farming implements.  That slow-moving emblem is placed on the rear of the vehicle.

Public Health Department Urging Folks To Get Flu Shot

10/31/15 – Officials with Dodge County’s Public Health Department are encouraging folks to get a flu shot this year.  Anyone over the age of six months is encouraged to get the shot, which is comprised of a dead form of the influenza virus that cannot make a person sick.  During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Public Health Director Jody Langfeldt said the most common and strongest influenza strains from the previous year are included in the flu shot.  Langfeldt says anyone between the ages of 2-49 can instead get a nasal form of the shot.  That is a weakened form of the virus instead of one that is completely dead, but it typically takes effect in three days as compared to two weeks.  In addition to getting an annual flu shot, Langfeldt encourages people to get plenty of rest, eat healthy, and drink plenty of fluids to avoid getting sick.  Langfeldt says people can get the shots through her department, a physician, or a pharmacy for roughly $25.

Dodge County Airport In Juneau Holding Pumpkin Drop

10/31/15 – Folks in Dodge County will have an interesting option for getting rid of their pumpkins this year.  The Dodge County Airport in Juneau is hosting a ‘pumpkin drop contest’ tomorrow.  Competitors will fly in an aircraft that is roughly 200 to 300 feet above a large tarp with a giant ‘X’ and try to drop their pumpkin as close to that ‘X’ as possible.  Each person will get two drops. That will cost $30 if renting on of the airport’s planes or $10 if supplying one’s own aircraft.  The airport will supply pumpkins to anyone who comes without one.  Airport Manager Mary Gasper says there will be prizes for the top three places, a $50 airport gift certificate for first place, a $30 certificate for second, and a Wisconsin Aviation cap for third.  Those can be used towards scenic/introductory flights, fuel, or clothing.  Gasper says the airport has not held a pumpkin drop since the late 1990’s and explains why they are bringing back the event.  The drop is weather permitting, and Gasper says registrations will still be taken tomorrow morning.  The event will run from 9 am to 3 pm with food and refreshments available.

The new speaker of the House talked to Wisconsin media yesterday and said that while it’s currently “a dust collector”, he would like to see Janesville and Rock County redevelop the property and bring jobs to the area. Ryan, a Janesville native, says he’d prefer to see the property go to the local communities rather than be sold.

Daylight Savings Reminder

10/31/15 – The booze will keep flowing for an extra hour at Wisconsin watering holes early Sunday morning. That’s when Daylight Savings Time ends, and the Badger State returns to Central Standard Time. State law allows bars to be open from 6 in the morning until 2 a-m during the week, and 2:30 on the weekends. This weekend, when the clock strikes 2, it automatically goes back to 1 o’clock – thus giving us all an additional hour to use as we choose. Many will sleep longer – and those who hit the bars can do it for an hour longer if they want.
