A pair of area softball teams settled for state runner-up trophies at the WIAA State Softball Tournament on Saturday at the Goodman Diamond in Madison.
In Division Five, Oakfield dropped a 4-3 decision in eight innings to Stevens Point Paceli. Oakfield finishes the season at 22-4. This was Oakfield’s 17th trip to the WIAA State Softball Tournament. This was their fifth runner up to go along with their six state title.
In Division Three, Laconia fell to Prescott 3-1. This was the Spartans sixth appearance at state, making it to the title game every time. It’s their third runner-up trophy, with 2nd place finishes in 2014 and 2009. They took come gold three straight seasons in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
