(Dodge County) Dodge County voters saw some contested races and a referendum while at the polls during Tuesday’s election. Of the five Wisconsin Assembly districts that are in the county, three were contested. In the 39th Assembly District, incumbent Republican Mark Born of Beaver Dam withstood a challenge from write-in candidate Steve Rydzewski of Beaver Dam. Born earned his sixth term in Madison.

In the 37th Assembly District, Republican Will Penterman of Columbus, seeking his first full term in the legislature, is leading Democrat Maureen McCarville of Deforest.

The Fifth Congressional District is staying under GOP control with incumbent Scott Fitzgerald securing a second consecutive seat after besting Democratic challenger Mike Van Someren.

Several referenda were approved during Tuesday night’s election. Voters said yes to Moraine Park Technical College’s $55-million-dollar referendum that will update and expand facilities. A part of the plan could see a $9.3-million fire training facility built in Dodge County, possibly in Horicon.

Waupun residents voted to allow the school district to exceed the state’s revenue limits by $980-thousand-dollars annually for three years for operating expenses. The final tally was 3,540 yes votes to 2,846 no votes.

In Columbia County, town of Randolph voters passed a referendum by a razor thin margin that will see garbage and biweekly recycling pickup instead of a monthly garbage drop off at a cost of up to $190 on the tax bill. That vote was 203 in favor with 201 against, a half percentage point difference.

In the town of Lowell, the position of town clerk will be appointed by the board.

Voters in the town of Theresa also said they want the town clerk and town treasurer appointed.

Waterloo School District’s referendum was voted down. It asked voters for $700-thousand-dollars each year for the next five years.
