(Waupun) Waupun and UW Extension are holding a two-day workshop later this month to advance the city’s economic development efforts in the downtown. On Septembre 18th and 19th, members of the Design Wisconsin team and city leaders as well as community stakeholders will discuss conceptual ideas and go on walking tours. Until the workshop, a survey is open for the community to provide their own thoughts on different assets in the city. Planning and design concepts generated by the Design Wisconsin team will be presented to the public on the 19th at the Junior/Senior High School at 7pm. (Lomira) Tony Evers discussed the need to find more funding to help pay teachers better wages while at a recent stop at the Lomira School District. The governor has called for a special session this month to target investments in the state’s education workforce. Evers is proposing $9.4-million to provide stipends to student teachers and interns, more than $2-million-dollars in stipends for teachers who agree to train and oversee student teachers or interns, and $50,000 for stipends to school library interns.
(Juneau) A Horicon man was charged with running from police just hours after he was convicted of the same crime. Lonnie Ramsey was allegedly clocked speeding by Juneau police as he left the courthouse on Friday, September 1st. He was there being sentenced on felony Fleeing charges that stemmed from a pursuit with Watertown police in December. During last Friday’s chase, Ramsey reportedly reached speeds in excess of 65-miles-per-hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone. The pursuit ended when Ramsey’s vehicle struck a semi-trailer stopped at Highway A and Highway 26. If convicted, the 28-year-old faces up to 13-and-a-half-years in prison.
(Beaver Dam) Marshfield Medical Center – Beaver Dam is now accepting applications for their fifth round of Community Health Grants. The program was created as part of a comprehensive initiative to ensure the hospital’s health and well-being efforts placed a greater focus on local needs. The deadline to apply is September 22nd. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says that anyone interested in donating or purchasing a sponsorship can head to the Beaver Dam Rotary Club website. The deadline to be a sponsor for the seventh annual display is September 15th.
