(Beaver Dam) This year’s Dodge County Fair nearly set an attendance record. The five-day festival, held from August 16th through the 20th at the fairgrounds just outside Beaver Dam, saw more than 58,000 visitors walk through the gates. The number fell just short of the record set in 2013 at 59,875.
(Beaver Dam) Three more missions round out the Badger Honor Flight this year. They are scheduled for September 9th, October 7th, and November 4th. The organizations mission is to ensure veterans who wish to see the memorials in Washington D.C., dedicated in their honor, are able to do so at no cost. The public is encouraged to head out to the Dane County airport around 8pm the day of the missions to give the veterans a well-deserved welcome home. (Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce is inviting citizens to attend the Beaver Dam Wine Tour next week. Chamber President Tracy Propst says tickets will be limited to the first 350 sold. She adds that there will also be a mocktail ticket for $25 dollars that includes five full-size mocktails that can be taken along the tour. Tickets are $35 dollars in advance and $45 dollars the week of the event. The Wine Tour will be held September 15th from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. (Watertown) Watertown was recently recognized for its efforts to revitalize a downtown space. The city received a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 Brownfields Success Award. The award celebrates the Bentzin Family Town Square brownfield redevelopment project, an anchor in the community’s downtown corridor. Environmental investigations identified petroleum-contaminated soil prior to cleanup and demolition. City officials say the investment has already paid dividends by increasing downtown activity, opening doors to more employment opportunities and encouraging other business owners to update their properties.
(Taycheedah) Fond du Lac Police have concluded their investigation into the beating death of an inmate at Taycheedah Correctional Institution. As a result, a charge of First-Degree Intentional Homicide has been referred against 27-year-old Taylor Sanchez to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office. Sanchez is suspected in the beating death of 68-year-old Cindy Schulz-Juedes who was found unresponsive in her cell in July. Schulz-Juedes was serving time for being found guilty of First-Degree Intentional Homicide.
