(Watertown) The Wisconsin Department of Justice has identified those involved in a shooting that left one man dead in Watertown earlier this month. Officers with the Watertown Police Department responded to a criminal damage to property complaint when Justin Whitten fled the scene. The 30-year-old was located in the parking lot on Tower Drive and turned towards arriving police with a handgun, according to officials. Officer James Simon, who has nine years of law enforcement experience, discharged his firearm and Whitten was pronounced dead at the scene. No other members of the public or law enforcement were injured during the incident.

(Mayville) Authorities in Mayville are investigating a house fire. Just before 11am on Wednesday a neighbor reported smoke coming from a house located on Grove Street. The single structure was a two-story building containing an upper and lower apartment. No one was home at the time of the blaze. Multiple agencies responded to the scene. The American Red Cross was also contacted to assist the families as needed.

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam School Board passed their 2023-2024 budget and tax levy at a recent meeting. The budget totals just over $46.5-million-dollars and the levy is around $17.9-million. The mill rate is $7.09 per one-thousand-dollars of assessed value, a decrease of 8.65-percent from the current budget year.

(Beaver Dam) Halloween is right around the corner, and the Beaver Dam Police Department is sharing some tips for parents on how they can keep their children safe. Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson encourages parents to advise their children to use a crosswalk when trick or treating with vehicles present. He adds that parents should also talk to their children about stranger danger and taking candy from vehicles parked on the street.

(Beaver Dam) The public is encouraged to head over to the Beaver Dam Fire Station this weekend for some fun Halloween activities. The department is hosting a safe trick-or-treat event Saturday. Residents are also asked to bring some treats to pass out and dress up in your favorite costume. The safe trick-or-treat event will take place from 1pm to 3pm at the fire station located at 205 South Lincoln Avenue.
