(Beaver Dam) The public is encouraged to attend several different events happening throughout Wayland Academy’s Homecoming. Activities kick off Friday and run through Sunday for the coed college preparatory school located in Beaver Dam. The public can attend the Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony Friday at 2pm at the Field House as well as the naming ceremony for Janik Field House on Saturday at 3pm. (Beaver Dam) Beaver Dam’s newly painted water tower is up for national recognition. The city’s tower is in the running to be named Tank of the Year. Organized since 2006 by Tnemec, Tank of the Year celebrates the innovative and creative uses of their coatings on water tanks throughout the U.S. and Canada. During a two-week public voting period, the community is given the opportunity to vote for their favorite tank which is named the People’s Choice. A Tnemec committee of water tank enthusiasts choose 11 other finalists and considers them, along with the People’s Choice, to decide the official Tank of the Year. (Beaver Dam) Two local service organizations are merging. Beaver Dam Elks Lodge 1540 and Watertown Elks Lodge 666 are combining forces and will be known as Watertown-Beaver Dam Lodge 666. Elks officials say Beaver Dam Elks have struggled to maintain its volunteer force, so merging with Watertown offers an opportunity to tap into more volunteers. They add that Watertown Elks will be able to reach more people in the shared community.

(Calamus) A Beaver Dam man accused of running from authorities has made his initial appearance in court. Kevin Kaul was allegedly behind the wheel when he ran from sheriff’s deputies on Friday, October 6th along Highway 151 outside the town of Calamus. Law enforcement followed Kaul until he stopped at a mobile home park in Beaver Dam. When questioned, Kaul allegedly admitted to being behind the wheel. If convicted, the 45-year-old faces up to nine-and-a-half-years in prison. Cash bond was set at $1,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 19th.

(Watertown) The Watertown Police Department is hosting a bartender awareness course later this month. Officials with the agency say it will provide valuable information to alcohol beverage license agents and bartenders. The course is designed to review and clarify Wisconsin alcohol beverage laws and applicable Watertown city ordinances. The course is free of charge. It will be held on October 24th from 6pm to 8pm at Watertown City Hall. Information about registering is available at DailyDodge.com.
