(Wisconsin) Alliant Energy is encouraging customers to be safe around natural gas with the arrival of cooler weather. Utility Spokesperson Chris Caporale (cap-oh-well) notes that certain odors, sounds, and symptoms can accompany a leak. They can include a rotten egg odor, a hiss, roar or whistle near a gas appliance, as well as feeling dizzy and a shortness of breath. Caporale also recommends installing carbon monoxide and natural gas detectors. He says they help identify odorless threats like carbon monoxide and are especially important for those with a known loss of smell. If your natural gas detector goes off, move quickly to a safe location and call Alliant Energy.
