(Waupun) Area fire officials are reminding citizens that outdoor burning this time of year can be dangerous. That is due to extremely dry conditions, low relative humidity, and that grass as well as weeds are still dormant. This message comes after a controlled burn got out of control at N11777 County Road I in the town of Chester Wednesday. It is estimated that 45-to-50 acres were burned. No firefighters or individuals at the scene were injured during the incident.
(Fond du Lac County) Fond du Lac County authorities arrested an Appleton woman yesterday (Thursday) following a six-mile pursuit. The 25-year-old driver reached speeds of 120-miles-per-hour during the chase which ended after tire deflation devices were successfully deployed. The suspect was taken in to custody without incident. She is facing charges of felony Fleeing.
(Calamus) Residents in the town of Calamus will have another way for getting rid of their garbage. George Stegner has started his own waste hauling business. He got the idea after a referendum question was narrowly voted down last fall, asking citizens if they wanted Calamus to contract for town-wide residential pickup of garbage and recycling. Stegner says Mondays will be his pickup days starting around 7am, and notes that he will not be able to supply garbage cans. Those interested in taken advantage of the service will be able to sign up tomorrow (Saturday) at the town hall.
(Waupun) The Waupun Business Alliance Annual Banquet will take place later this month. The event will feature awards for local businesses and community members, including Gysberโs Jewelry and the Waupun Community Center, along with presentations on economic progress from City Administrator Kathy Schlieve and Envision Greater Fond du Lac CEO Sadie Howell. The banquet is on March 27th from 5pm to 8pm at the Rock Golf Club in Waupun.ย
(Columbus) The Columbus Council approved an agreement between the city and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation regarding changes in access to State Highway 73 between Avalon Road and Tower Drive. The DOT had expressed concern over the spacing of OโBrien Court between Faith Drive and Avalon Road. The crash rate currently is one-third of the state average.
