(Beaver Dam) The liquor license for Johnny’s Lounge in Beaver Dam is not being renewed. The city council last (Monday) night made that decision following a recommendation by Police Chief John Kreuziger, who cited five incidents in the past two years ranging from serving underage patrons to closing time fights to overserving that resulted in vehicular homicide. Kreuziger says his recommendation is not based on any one individual incident but rather the totality of all the infractions. An attorney for Johnny’s Lounge owner Amanda Hammen individually refuted the claims, noting that several of the incidents cited have yet to be proven in a court of law and vowing to bring the matter to federal court. The current license ends on June 30.
(Waupun) The Waupun Common Council heard an update last (Tuesday) night on the 2020 budget. While no numbers were unveiled, City Administrator Kathy Schlieve used the opportunity to outline strategic priorities heading into next year which include quality of place, a well-maintained infrastructure and economic vitality. Needs identified by the Waupun Fire Department include continued work on the fire district consolidation and examining regional opportunities to ensure sustainability of the city’s fire and emergency services. The Waupun Police Department goals include further work on succession plans in preparation for future retirements. Final budget adaption is slated for November 12.
(Mayville) City officials in Mayville were given an update this week on the progress of joining Beaver Dam’s municipal court. There would be several benefits for the city including reduced fines, an additional $5 for each citation and flexible court schedules. Lieutenant Ryan Toellner says the next step in the process is getting approval from other municipalities that are involved with Beaver Dam’s municipal court. Those include the Town of Beaver Dam along with the village of Neosho, the towns of Rubicon and Ashippun and Waupun. The goal would be to join Beaver Dam’s municipal court sometime early next year.
(Beaver Dam) A stretch of Highway 33/ Park Avenue in Beaver Dam will be detoured starting today for the rest of the week. Crews will be repairing a water main break in the eastbound lanes. A detour will take motorists onto South Vita Avenue, Washington Street and South University Avenue. Weather-permitting the project will be complete by Friday. Westbound traffic on Park Avenue will not be affected.
(Beaver Dam) There is a vacancy on the Juneau Common Council. Ward One Alderman Jason Buske is moving out of the district. Mayor Dan Wegener is accepting letters of interested from residents of the ward and hopes to have a recommendation before the council at an upcoming meeting. (Juneau) A Dodge County Jail inmate who failed to return to the facility while on work release was sentenced yesterday (Tuesday) to a year in prison. Jennifer Petersen entered a guilty plea to a felony charge of Escape Criminal Arrest. Petersen was serving a 270-day Huber sentence for felony Theft when she failed to return to the jail in February. The 39-year-old was scheduled for release on April 11. In addition to prison, Petersen was placed on extended supervision for one year as well as three years of probation.
(Oshkosh) A 49-year-old sex offender will be released from prison this Thursday and will be living at 1105 Jefferson Street in Oshkosh. Jerry Prager was convicted in September of 2016 of causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity and child enticement. The victim was a 14-year-old girl. He will be on electronic monitoring. He’s currently incarcerated at Redgranite Correctional Institution.
