(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Fire Department’s new training facility should be ready to be utilized in the coming weeks. It is located in the 600 block of South Center Street, the site of the old Department of Public Works building. The space will feature 2,880 square feet of training area, two burn rooms, an assortment of training props, and a four-story tall training tower. The building was manufactured in Illinois then delivered to Beaver Dam where it will be assembled. The parts began to arrive last week, and crews will begin putting it together on June 12th.
(Wisconsin) The state may be sending some money back to Washington. Governor Tony Evers said this week his administration is preparing for the possibility the federal government will want back unspent COVID funds as part of the debt ceiling bill. The Legislative Audit Bureau reported in December the state had about $1.9-billion-dollars in unspent funds as of June 2022. The Evers administration has not provided any updates since then on what it had yet to distribute. Dodge County received just over $17-million in American Rescue Plan Act funding. Just over $7.1-million-dollars was allocated by the county board in 2022.
(Wisconsin) There’s plenty of dissatisfaction in Congress with the debt ceiling deal. Wisconsin Republican Glenn Grothman expressed frustration that the bill would only impose work requirements on food stamps. Grothman spoke on Tuesday, as the deal narrowly passed the House Rules Committee on a 7-6 vote before passing the House yesterday Wednesday night in a 314 to 117 vote and is now on its way to the Senate – WRN
(Columbia County) An OWI roundup on the roads of Columbia County over the Memorial Day weekend. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 people for Operating While Intoxicated over the course of the extended holiday weekend. They include a Seventh Offense, a Third Offense, and 20 First Offense OWI’s. The Seventh Offense involved a 39-year-old-Madison man. Police say Michael Meyer was driving a golf cart down a road and threw a beer bottle in a ditch. He also reportedly urinated on the side of the road.
(Beaver Dam) The village of Randolph has applied for funding through the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program to address deficiencies in its public drinking water system. The project includes water main and sanitary sewer reconstruction along portions of Center Street, Church Street, First Street, Sunny Side Place, and Grove Street. The DNR has determined that the project will not result in significant adverse environmental effects, though based on public comments received by their deadline on June 5th, the state may prepare an environmental analysis before proceeding with the funding process.
