News – July 24, 2023

(Oshkosh) The Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture convention begins in Oshkosh Monday. Every year, more than 500,000 aviation enthusiasts and EAA members from more than 80 countries descend upon Wittman Regional Airport. Organizers say attendees can expect to see formation flights from G6โ€™s and that many people enjoy the old World War Two and Korean War airplanes. They add that last year was a record attendance and about 10-to-12,000 airplanes come to the Oshkosh area every year.

(Beaver Dam) One of Beaver Damโ€™s newest police officersโ€™ journey to a career in law enforcement started with a realization at 14-years-old and began with ride-alongs a year later. Megan Ruhland says she walked into the local police station in Sun Prairies and asked if she could take part in a few ride-alongs. Permission was granted and her parents signed off on it. Beaver Dam Police Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson says this is not unusual and it normally happens with school resource officers. Johnson adds that while only Dodge County has a cadet program, Beaver Dam is working on a community service officer position.

(Fon du Lac County) The Waupun Fire Department utilized UTVs to respond to a plane crash in Fon du Lac County on Saturday at 7:51pm. The crash happened in the area of Highway 49 and Hemp Road in the Township of Waupun. Authorities say the plane was occupied by two people from Texas and was headed to the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh. The fire departments of the Village of Brandon and Town of Alto also used UTVs to respond to the crash. It is still under investigation.

(Beaver Dam) The city of Waterloo has applied for funding through the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program to address deficiencies in its public drinking water system. The project includes the upgrade of electrical, pumping, controls, and chemical feeds as well as expanding the station service area at well number two. The DNR has determined that the project will not result in significant adverse environmental effects, though based on public comments received by their deadline July 26th, the state may prepare an environmental analysis before proceeding with the funding process.

(Beaver Dam) There are several job openings to help at this yearโ€™s Dodge County Fair. The Fair Association is seeking 20 temporary grounds crew members to help with set-up, cleaning, and tear-down for the 2023 event. Officials say applicants must be 15 years old, able to lift a full bag or barrel of garbage, work well with others, and have experience with cleaning as well as landscaping. They add that farm work experience is a plus. The pay is $12 an hour and morning or evening shifts are available. Information about applying can be found at DailyDodge.com.
