(Beaver Dam) The company that provides home to school transportation services for the Beaver Dam School District was recently acquired by First Student. The district currently contracts with Badger Bus Lines. Through this acquisition, which is anticipated to conclude over the next few weeks, First Student will assume that contract and provisions Badger Bus has with Beaver Dam. District leadership has been in conversation with executives representing both bus companies to help support a transition that should have little to no disruption in services for students and their families. Parents will receive more information from First Student and the district once the acquisition is finalized.

(Beaver Dam) Beaver Dam officials are advising motorists that road construction for the 2023 Street Reconditioning Program is set to begin next week. Ten projects that will include asphalt pavement resurfacing is anticipated to begin the week of July 24th. Access to the project areas will be limited during construction hours, which is 7am to 7pm weekdays, but will be maintained to the greatest extent possible during off hours. (Taycheedah) Fond du Lac authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at Taycheedah Correctional Institution. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections confirmed the death Thursday of a person in their care at the facility. On Wednesday, correctional officers found Cindy Chulz-Juedes unresponsive in her cell. The Fond du Lac Police Department and Fire and Rescue were called to the scene. but efforts to revive the 68-year-old were unsuccessful. Police say they continue to investigate the circumstances of the death and that they are in the preliminary stages.

(Portage) Approximately 1,000 customers were without natural gas after a leak in the city of Portage Thursday. The Portage Fire Department was dispatched to the 300 block of Washington Street for a reported natural gas leak caused by a line being struck around 8:50am. An update just before noon by Columbia County authorities indicated that the leak had been stopped. After the pipe is repaired, crews from Alliant Energy will be going door to door to the approximate 1,000 customers to restore gas service.

(Beaver Dam) Many communities across the country are dealing with the rise of illegal drugs such as fentanyl, methamphetamine, and other dangerous substances. Members of the Beaver Dam Police Department note that Beaver Dam is no different. Patrol Officer Jace Laning says drugs are the underlying factor in 90-percent of the complaints the department deals with. He also encourages people to say something if they see anything out of the ordinary.
