(Beaver Dam) More and more communities are instituting no pursuit policies where law enforcement is restricted on who and when they can pursue. That is not the case with the Beaver Dam Police Department. Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson says they try to be smart about it and says they will not pursue a suspect if the crime does not fit the chase. He adds that there are people out there who drive recklessly on purpose to get law enforcement to stop chasing them.
(Lomira) A bench warrant was issued yesterday (Monday) for a Chicago man charged with running from Dodge County authorities. Ellis Freeman was scheduled to make his initial appearance in court Monday, but according to court records, he failed to appear. Freeman was allegedly behind the wheel when he fled from deputies in November near the town of Lomira. The pursuit lasted nearly five miles and reached speeds of around 75-miles-per-hour before being called off. If convicted, the 43-year-old faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison.
(Beaver Dam) The Wisconsin Legislature kicked off the new year with several bills supporting access to health and dental care. State Representative Mark Born says there were four bills approved by the Assembly that focused on dental care. The Beaver Dam Republican highlighted one that looks to bring expansion of dental therapy to Wisconsin. He says its aim is to improve access due to workforce shortages.
(Horicon) The mayor of Horicon called 2023 โone of the best yearsโ that he can remember. Josh Maas noted several large scale projects such as a new subdivision being built as well as Moraine Park Technical College breaking ground on its new Horicon Regional Center. Maas also noted several โlittle winsโ that were just as important for the city last year such as getting all their ordinances online and changing city websites from a dot-US to a dot-gov, improving cybersecurity.
(Beaver Dam) The University of Wisconsin-Madisonโs Wisconsin Singers is taking the stage at the Beaver Dam High School Auditorium for its 56th season courtesy of the Beaver Dam Lions Club. The new 90-minute show titled โWhen Opposites Attractโ is performed by unpaid full-time UW students collectively studying more than 24 majors. Introducing the concert will be a performance of โGood Old Acapellaโ directed by Mark Lafeber of Beaver Dam High School. The show is on January 27th at 7:30pm.
