(Beaver Dam) A Beaver Dam man accused of running from police entered a not guilty plea by reason of mental defect during his arraignment hearing this week. Dylan Brzezinski (bruh-zin-ski) allegedly fled police last October, stopping several times before again accelerating away. The third time the 22-year-old stopped he was struck in the chest by a bean bag round. When asked why he did not stop, Brzezinski reportedly said he felt like he was in a video game. If convicted, the 22-year-old faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison.  

(Markesan) The Markesan Police Department is investigating a retail theft that occurred at two businesses in the city. Authorities say the suspects entered the city’s Piggly Wiggly and Citgo and stole significant amount of liquor. The suspects were in a black Nissan Titan crew cab with no cover or cap. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Markesan Police Department.  

(Waupun) Envision Greater Fond du Lac will be offering a program in Waupun that they haven’t offered in some time. Envision President and CEO Sadie Vander Velde says the Envision 101 program will be presented at the Fox Valley Savings Bank in Waupun on Tuesday, January 30th from 8am to 9am. Space for the program is limited so registration is encouraged. Those interested in attending can register at the Envision website on their events page.  

(Portage) The City of Portage will be hosting two public information sessions regarding the fire/EMS referendum that will appear on the spring general ballots on February 20, 2024. The meetings will be hosted in-person and virtually. Sessions will take place on Thursday January 25th and Thursday February 15th at 5:30pm at the City of Portage Municipal Building. (Madison) The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is asking the public to report any black bear den locations across Wisconsin to help with an ongoing black bear reproduction study. The Black Bear Litter and Diet Survey is now entering its third year of data collection and will generate updated estimates of black bear reproductive rates within each of the state’s bear management zones.
