(Beaver Dam) One a three-to-one vote, the Beaver Dam Police and Fire Commission last (Tuesday) night changed its policy on residency requirements for personnel. The action allows police and fire officials to work within 45 miles of the city of Beaver Dam, up from a 15-mile radius. The police and fire chiefโ€™s each asked for a 60-mile radius noting that it is getting harder and harder to find qualified candidates close to home. The matter is expected to be revisited in December of next year, at the end of the current contract with the cityโ€™s police and fire unions, to determine if it is effective.

(Horicon) The Horicon School District will hold a special recognition at this monthโ€™s meeting for Board President Tina Streblow, who passed away last week. Thatโ€™s according to Superintendent Rich Apple who says Streblow was a โ€œdynamic personโ€ whose memory will live on in the new elementary school and districtwide upgrades approved by referendum during her tenure. Apple says Streblow had a passion for helping others from volunteering at a local church to mentoring students to personally hosting multiple foreign exchange students in her home. In addition to her work on the school board, Streblow also worked at her local church as a sixth grade catechism teacher.

(Columbia) Authorities in Columbia County are asking the public for help in locating an inmate who failed to return from work release. Selina Littlewolf was scheduled to be back at the jail at 1am on Sunday (February 2nd) but failed to do so. She is serving a ten month Huber sentence on charges of Operating while Intoxicated, Operating after Revocation and two counts of misdemeanor Bail Jumping. Littlewolfโ€™s last known address is E8883 Winneshiek Drive in Wisconsin Dells. Anyone with information should contact the Columbia County Sheriffโ€™s Office (608-742-4166).

(Waupun) Police arrested a Waupun woman Sunday evening on vehicle theft charges. The The car was stolen from East Brown Street and was later located in the city of Fond du Lac. Charges of Operating without the Owners Consent, Theft, Bail Jumping, Possession of THC and Disorderly Conduct are being referred to the Dodge County District Attorneyโ€™s Office against the 29-year-old.

(Fond du Lac) Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue welcomed back one of their own yesterday from an 18 month deployment with the Army National Guard in Afghanistan. Firefighter paramedic Brett Hefty served as a sergeant working in a remote outpost. His squad leader Sergeant First Class Chris Lauerman said what Hefty brought to the mission that nobody else could was the advanced medical knowledge he learned from working with the Fond du Lac Fire Department. Hefty returned to work on Sunday. He says he appreciates the support he got from family, friends and the community. He was welcomed back Tuesday during a ceremony at Fire Station #1 on Fond du Lacโ€™s South Main Street.

(Madison) Three more counties had wild deer test positive for chronic wasting disease in 2019. Dunn, Marathon and Sheboygan counties bring to 30 the total number of counties where the disease has been verified in wild herds since CWD was first detected in 2002. There have been more than 6500 positives from some 245-thousand deer tested for CWD since then. The majority of confirmed cases come from what the DNR calls the “Southern Farmland Zone,” along a line from Vernon County in the west to Ozaukee County in the east. Last month, it was announced that a deer harvested in Marquette County during the 2019 nine-day gun deer season tested positive for CWD. That triggered a similar three year ban in Columbia County while Green Lake County will see a two year ban.

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce is hosting a debate this (Wednesday) evening with the three candidates running for mayor. Incumbent Becky Glewen is being challenged by Jeff Kohman and Alan Winter. The forum will be held from 7pm to 8:30pm at the Veteranโ€™s Center. It will be video streamed live at DailyDodge.com and aired this Saturday at 1pm on AM1430 WBEV.
