(Waupun) A former inmate at Waupun Correctional was found guilty yesterday (Tuesday) of attacking another prisoner. A jury convicted Sir Jordan Cosby of Battery by Prisoners and Substantial Battery. In June of 2017, Cosby and another convict were observed by correctional officers attacking a third inmate. Dodge County Assistant District Attorney James Sempf, who prosecuted the case, says he is grateful for the hard work of the jury who had to sort through the evidence of this complicated case. The 28-year-old Cosby faces up to 17-and-a-half years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 8.
(Clyman) A Clyman man was found guilty yesterday (Tuesday) of burglarizing a bar in Clyman. 22-year-old Kaleb Reardon entered a no contest plea to a felony count of Burglary. 19-year-old Matthew Schneider, also from Clyman, was given two yearsโ probation for his role in the crime. Reardon and Schneider broke into Mercer Tโs during the early morning hours on March 31 and took over $400 worth of alcohol, cigarettes and a money jar. A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered and Reardon is due back in court on October 25.
(Waupun) A Reeseville man was found guilty yesterday (Tuesday) of making threats towards Waupun police. Austin Hernandez drove over several lawns causing significant rut damage and nearly hit two homes after policing cited him for disturbance. While he was taken into custody, Hernandez made multiple threats to law enforcement. Hernandez is due back for sentencing on November 21.
(Horicon) The city of Horicon signed off on a 6-month EMS agreement extension with the village of Kekoskee last night. The extension will allow the village of Kekoskee time to consider a one-year contract recently approved by the city of Mayville to provide EMS services. Kekoskeeโs current contract with Horicon EMS was set to expire at the end of September.
(Beaver Dam) There will be a one block detour in place while Beaver Dam utilities work on a leaking water service in the 100 block of Front Street. Starting today (Wednesday), the detour will reroute drivers to Maple Avenue between North Center Street and North Spring Street. Utilities Foreman Jeremy Klug says the street should be reopened to traffic sometime on Friday.
(Waupun) A ribbon cutting ceremony for a new all-abilities playground at the Rock River Intermediate School in Waupun was held yesterday (Tuesday). A culmination of a yearsโ worth of fundraising and planning the playground will allow all students a chance to enjoy recess, as well as give them a place to play after school and on the weekends. A parent led group worked to make the all-abilities playground a reality with the help of raised funds from the community, area businesses, and contributions from Waupun Memorial Hospital and Agnesian Healthcare. The group plans to take remaining funds and pay it forward to other area schools to help fund similar all access playground projects.
(Beaver Dam) There will be a special screening today (Wednesday) of a romantic comedy movie starring Fred MacMurray. Princess Comes Across will be shown at the Beaver Dam Community Library. MacMurray grew up in Beaver Dam stars in the 1936 film alongside Carole Lombard. Local historian Roger Noll says the film is considered one of the great screwball comedies of the 1930โs. He says it has the rare distinction of being a comedy, musical and murder mystery all rolled into one. There will be two screenings of Princess Comes Across at 3pm and 7pm, both will be held in the libraryโs basement.
