(Juneau) A few more Dodge County Parks could be seeing some improvements to their amenities in the coming years. Eight state-of-the-art toilets were recently installed at Derge, Ledge, and Astico Parks that replaced aging facilities that have served visitors for the past 40-to-50 years. Dodge County park officials say the Wild Goose State Trail head at Highway 60 and Junction Road by Clyman will see a new vault toilet installed next year. Other parks identified for new facilities include Harnischfeger Park, Nitschke Mounds Park, and the Wild Goose Trail head at Highways 26 and 33. The hope is that all projects will be completed by 2028.
(Columbus) The Columbus Beautification Committee sought approval from the common council this week to paint garbage cans around the city as a fundraising event. The cans would be decorated by local youth groups below the handles. Alderwoman Trina Reid was concerned about obscenities being painted on cans and did not want to waste money. Alderman Adam Steiner supports the idea of painting the cans and says the committee has the authority to not put a specific barrel out if it is not to their liking. The council decided that the Beautification Committee will set parameters on what can and cannot be painted on the garbage cans.
(Beaver Dam) Several area high schools were recognized by the state for students performance and participation in advanced placement coursework. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, in partnership with the Wisconsin Advanced Placement Advisory Council, recently announced that 142 schools received recognition for their Advanced Placement exams. High schools from the area on the list include Beaver Dam, Columbus, and Watertown. The 2022 Advanced Placement Pacesetter Awards are unique to Wisconsin and represent a celebration of excellence from students across the state.
(Beaver Dam) A Beaver Dam man has been charged with running from police in the city. Michael Matamoros allegedly fled law enforcement on August 18th while reaching estimated speeds close to 100-miles-per-hour. If convicted, the 45-year-old faces up to three-and-a-half-years in prison. Cash bond was set at $500 during Matamorosโ initial appearance in court and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 21st.
(Waupun) The Waupun Police Department is warning the public about rental scams making the rounds and the steps to take to not be a victim. Authorities say they were made aware of the scams by a local realtor. Some red flags include if the listing agent or property manager asks you to wire money or pay in an unusual way, if they ask for money before signing a lease, if the rent is suspiciously low, and if the agent will not let you tour the property. Waupun police recommend contacting the Federal Trade Commission immediately if you believe you have been a victim of a rental scam. More information is at DailyDodge.com.
