(Columbus) A bank secrecy act officer with Farmers and Merchants Union Bank in Columbus recently joined Community Comment to discuss financial scams. Shaian Hannaman encourages residents to trust their gut as well as their financial institution, and reach out if they are not sure about something. Other tips include signing up for consumer alerts on the FTC website.

(Columbus) The Columbus City Council got their first look at the five-year Capital Improvement Plan at a recent committee meeting. City Administrator Matt Amundson says this plan was put together because municipal financing firm Ehlers is looking to do financial forecasting for future borrowing. The next step for city staff is to finalize the draft plan and submit it to Ehlerโ€™s. 

(Mayville) Mayvilleโ€™s Main Street program was recently recognized by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. Main Street Mayville was named a Gold Tier Main Street organization for fiscal year 2025. Only 14 of the 34 designated Main Street programs around the state have achieved Gold Tier status. In recognition of this success, Mayvilleโ€™s Main Street program is eligible for additional services to benefit their district, and staff and board members are invited to participate in an advocacy event intended to help develop and inform additional downtown-friendly programs and policies at the state level. 

(Beaver Dam) Itโ€™s day two at the Dodge County Fair. At Radio Park, itโ€™s Senior Day with free bingo from 1pm to 2pm. Music from Elvis impersonator Tony Rocker goes from 2pm until 4pm. In the Farm Progress Arena, area youth will show and sell their top animals during the Meat Animal Sale starting at 6:30pm. The sale will also be broadcast live on DailyDodgeTV. On the grandstand stage tonight, Tracy Byrd will kick off the free concert series at 8pm.

(Fond du Lac) Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue was dispatched to Mercury Marine Plant 15 Tuesday for a report of a paint oven on fire. Upon first arrival around 5:37pm, fire personnel found smoke showing from the roof vent of the building. Evacuation procedures were in progress. Approximately 500 gallons of water was used to extinguish the blaze. Damage was contained to the oven and venting. The cause of the fire is being determined.
