New Ultrasound Technology Expands Women’s Health Care in Waupun

(WAUPUN) Patients at SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital will soon benefit from upgraded imaging services, thanks to a major donation supporting women’s health care in the community.

The hospital has added a new, state-of-the-art ultrasound machine made possible by a $104,500 gift from the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation. The funding came through the hospital’s Women’s Health Fund, which supports services and technology focused on women at every stage of life.

Part of the gift includes a $75,000 donation made last fall in memory of longtime Waupun resident Donna Vande Zande. Vande Zande, who died in December 2023, was a former hospital Auxiliary member and a strong supporter of local health care.

Hospital and foundation leaders say the new ultrasound system will provide clearer images and faster results, helping physicians make more confident diagnoses while improving patient comfort. Ultrasound imaging is commonly used during pregnancy and to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions, and it is considered a safe, non-invasive tool.

The technology also allows for remote consultation, giving patients access to specialized expertise without needing to travel outside the community.

Hospital President DeAnn Thurmer said the investment strengthens the hospital’s ability to deliver advanced care locally, ensuring patients receive timely information and compassionate treatment without leaving Waupun.
