New Assistant Principal Looks to Make a Difference in Horicon Schools

(HORICON) Andrew Selgrad says what excites him most about his new role in Horicon isn’t the title — it’s the chance to reach more students.

“Being able to work with teachers, with students, athletes, to have an impact on so many people within a district is a unique opportunity,” Selgrad said. “I’m really excited about that.”

Selgrad is stepping in as the middle and high school assistant principal, a role he says gives him a wider lens to support students both inside and outside the classroom.

He comes to Horicon with years of experience as a teacher and instructional coach in Wisconsin schools. Along the way, he’s focused on building strong relationships with students, staff and families — something he sees as the foundation for helping students succeed.

That people-first approach is what Selgrad hopes to bring to Horicon.

He says his goal is to support teachers while also helping students grow — not just academically, but as leaders and members of the school community.

Selgrad’s background in education is matched by his time working with students in activities and athletics, where he’s spent more than two decades coaching football. He says those experiences have shaped how he connects with students and understands what motivates them.

Selgrad is a graduate of St. Mary’s Springs High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, along with a master’s degree in educational technology from Marian College and an educational leadership degree from Concordia University.

As he gets started in Horicon, Selgrad says he’s focused on listening, learning and finding ways to make a positive impact across the district.

“I’m really looking forward to getting to know the community,” he said, “and finding ways to help students succeed.”
