New Ambulance Hits the Streets in Watertown After Two Years of Prep

(WATERTOWN) When someone in Watertown calls for help, a new ambulance will now be the one pulling up.

The Watertown Fire Department has officially placed a new ambulance into service, giving first responders a new front-line vehicle to handle medical calls, fires, and other emergencies across the city.

The ambulance has been more than two years in the making, from the initial order to its arrival. Before it ever responded to a call, crews spent months getting it ready behind the scenes โ€” installing equipment, stocking medications, setting up technology, completing a state inspection, and making sure every firefighter and paramedic received the required orientation and driver training.

Fire officials say the new unit will serve as the departmentโ€™s primary ambulance, often described as the โ€œworkhorseโ€ of the response system. Its role is to help ensure residents get timely, high-quality care when they need it most.

The departmentโ€™s current ambulance isnโ€™t going anywhere. It will move into a secondary role but is expected to remain a busy and essential part of emergency response throughout Watertown.

Fire department leaders credited the projectโ€™s success to the teamwork and preparation of staff members who worked on the ambulance from start to finish, with a focus on safety, readiness, and service.

They also thanked city officials for their support, calling the new ambulance another example of the ongoing commitment to serving the Watertown community every day.
