Moraine Park Technical College Cancels 2020 Commencement Ceremony

(Beaver Dam) Moraine Park Technical College announced Wednesday that they are canceling their 2020 commencement ceremony. School officials cite the still fluid COVID-19 situation and the many unknowns around the reopening of the state. They say due to Governor Tony Evers extension of the Safer at Home order and his Badger Bounce Back requirements, the college will be unable to hold a large celebration on June 27. In early April, MPTC choose to pushback their commencement date to June with a disclaimer that if social distancing requirements were still in effect the event would be canceled. Moraine Park President Bonnie Baerwald says they had the highest hopes to hold a ceremony this year, however, the safety of students and employees is of the utmost importance. She adds that it is no secret that this historic time has resulted in the loss of many things for many people but their student’s newly gained college degrees is not one of those things. Baerwald shared the news with student’s yesterday morning while acknowledging their accomplishments. She also extended a personal invitation to the graduates to participate in next year’s ceremony.
