(Dodge County) Officials with Ready Wisconsin says this week is a good time to prepare for the snow and cold. November 13th through the 17th is Winter Weather Awareness Week. Wisconsin Emergency Management Administrator Greg Engle notes that when the wind blows and the snow starts falling, it is important for all Wisconsin to know what to do so they can stay safe.
He says it is important to pay attention to weather forecasts for possible advisories, watches, and warnings so you don’t find yourself in the middle of the weather when it’s too late. Engle also recommends emergency kits for the home and vehicles.
According to the National Weather Service over the past 40 years Dodge and Fond du Lac counties have had 99 winter storm events, Green Lake County has had 93, and Winnebago County 91.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ preliminary numbers there were 94 cold-related deaths in the state during that last winter season. More tips and information about Winter Weather Awareness Week are available at the Ready Wisconsin website.
