(MERRIMAC) Getting across the Wisconsin River just got easier again.
The Merrimac ferry is now running for the 2026 season, carrying traffic across WIS 113 between Okee in Columbia County and Merrimac in Sauk County.
The ferry โ officially called the COLSAC III โ operates around the clock and doesnโt cost a thing. It carries cars, bikes and people across the river in about seven minutes.
Itโs a familiar route for many in the area. Last year alone, the ferry made nearly 40,000 trips, moving more than 208,000 vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
Beyond its daily use, the COLSAC III is also part of Wisconsin history. The ferry is listed on both the state and national registers of historic places.
People who want to check wait times or see the ferry in action can find live webcams and more information on the Wisconsin Department of Transportationโs website.
