For the first time since 2006 the Mayville High School football team will play for a state championship on the turf at Camp Randall Stadium after defeating Belleville 42-25 in a WIAA Division 5 State Semifinal on Friday night. Junior Blake Schraufnagel ran for six touchdowns in the victory. The Cardinals (11-2) will face LaCrosse Aquinas (13-0) on Thursday afternoon at 4pm in the WIAA Division 5 State Championship Game. The last time Mayville was in the state title game was in 2006, when they dropped 41-23 decision to Wrightstown in the Division Four title game.
Columbus saw their fantastic season come to an end Friday night, falling to #1 ranked Waukesha Catholic Memorial 42-19 at Walworth Big Foot High School in a WIAA Division 4 State Semifinal. Colton Brunell ran for 196 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. Columbus ends their season at 11-2. This was Cardinals first loss on the field this season as their other defeat was a health and safety protocol forfeit. Catholic Memorial (13-0) will play for their 3rd straight state football title next Thursday night when they face Ellsworth (12-0) in the WIAA Division 4 Championship Game at 7pm.
