Mayville Mayor: New Police Chief Brings ‘Positive Change’

(Mayville) Mayville’s Police Chief is now off of a sixth month probationary period. In September, Jim Ketchem was sworn in as the new chief of police. A part of is hiring included a probationary period that would conclude with a review after six months. Mayor Rob Boelk says he could not be more pleased with Ketchem’s work thus far and has seen considerable positive changes in the police department. Mayville’s Common Council Monday night approved Ketchem’s passage of the probationary period as well as a $4,000 salary increase and an additional one-week of vacation. Ketchem says the job has helped rejuvenate his career. He says he has been impressed with the professionalism of the officers and notes that he has seen great support from the community and the city council. Ketchem says his goals moving forward include an equipment update plan and increased training opportunities such as handling active shooter situations and report writing.
