Mayville Battles Columbus in 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam Slam at the Dam

The Mayville Cardinals will be taking on the Columbus Cardinals at the 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam Slam at the Dam on Nov. 25. This will be the team’s second game of the 2023-24 campaign after taking on Kiel at Fiserv Forum on Nov. 24.

Mayville comes off a strong showing where they finished 13-13 overall with a 9-5 record in the Flyway Conference. The Cardinals finished in third place in the Flyway Conference behind Saint Mary Springs (13-1) and Campbellsport (11-3).

Head Coach Zach Jahns led his squad to the second round of the WIAA tournament, as the team defeated Jefferson 77-41 before falling to Lakeside Lutheran 76-42.

1st team All Flyway Conference honoree Adison Mittelstadt steered the Cardinals’ offense on all fronts; he was the team’s top scorer (21.5 PPG), their second-best rebounder (6.0 RPG) and the primary facilitator (4.4 APG).

Junior guard Joren Schlender and senior guard Cohen Raddemann are the team’s two returning starters for the season. Brett Kirmse is taking over coaching duties for the Cardinals, and he said he’s looking forward to seeing Raddemann take the next step.

“I think he’s really going to have a strong year for us,” Kirmse said. “Finally getting him healthy, I think he’s really going to surprise some people going forward.”

Mayville and Columbus go face-to-face at 8 PM on Nov. 25 in the final 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam Slam at the Dam matchup. The game will be simulcast on 1430 ESPN and Daily Dodge TV.
