Mayor Glewen Hoping Grant Dollars Will Fix Drooping Retaining Wall

(Beaver Dam) Mayor Becky Glewen is optimistic about the city’s chances of getting a grant to fix a retaining wall drooping over the Beaver Dam River. The Beaver Dam Common Council last month approved the city’s application for an outdoor recreation grant. The 50-50 matching grant would fund the removal of a retaining wall along the Beaver Dam River in the downtown tower parking lot. An ADA-complaint path would be forged to the river’s edge where a kayak launch would be installed. A river walk may also be developed on the west side of the river near the Watermark. Total project cost is estimated at a half-million dollars. Mayor Becky Glewen discussed the grant when she joined us yesterday (Friday) on WBEV’s Community Comment. She says the 50-percent match may come from funds set aside for downtown landscaping and the acquisition and demolition of a Front Street building that would have created a walking path to the new community theatre building. Glewen notes that the Beaver Dam River is perfect for kayaking. Beaver Dam will find out if they’ve qualified for the grant after the state budget is finalized.
