(Markesan) A member of the state’s Joint Finance Committee does not expect the governor to come back to the negotiating table over the next two-year budget plan. Representative Alex Dallman says one of the main sticking points was tax cuts.
The Republican from Markesan notes the amount of spending Tony Evers wanted in relation to the tax cut was not something Republicans could stomach. Dallman says they would welcome the opportunity to have talks with the governor about the budget, but he does not see that happening.
He says one of the things they need to guard against is an opportunity in the budget for the Governor to use his creative partial veto powers. In the last budget, one such veto created an increase in student aid that is perpetual for 400 years.
