Man Charged in Fatal Watertown Hit-and-Run

(JEFFERSON) A Watertown man is charged for his involvement in a fatal hit-and-run crash from Sunday. 54-year-old Jeffrey Redecker faces three counts, including homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Police say officers were dispatched around 12:40 a.m. on Dec. 21 to reports of a pickup truck striking a pedestrian along East Main Street. The crash began in the East Madison and 5th Street and ended in the 2nd Street.

The body of 35-year-old Cole Strohbusch was found near East Main Street and 2nd Street, and was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators say Redecker’s vehicle fled the scene before officers arrived. Through the use of license plate reader data and video evidence, police were able to identify the vehicle, and trace Redecker to his home, where he was arrested.

Court records show that Redecker was previously convicted of driving with a prohibited alcohol concentration in 2006, which led to his driving status being revoked for six months. He is being held in the Jefferson County jail on $500,000 bond.
