Local Unemployment Falls Again in April

(MADISON) Unemployment continued to move lower across much of the area in April, with Dodge, Columbia, Jefferson, and Fond du Lac counties all posting month-to-month declines.

New data released by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development shows Dodge Countyโ€™s unemployment rate dropped to 2.7% in April, down from 3.3% in March. Fond du Lac County fell to 3.0%, compared to 3.4% the month before.

Columbia County also saw a noticeable decline, with unemployment falling to 3.1% in April after sitting at 3.9% in March. Jefferson County dropped from 3.5% to 2.9%.

The April numbers continue a trend that started in March after unemployment climbed during the first two months of the year following the holiday slowdown.

Among the four counties, Dodge County tied for the fourth-lowest unemployment rate in Wisconsin in April, while Jefferson County tied for eighth. Fond du Lac County and Columbia County both remained near the middle of the statewide rankings.

Statewide, unemployment rates declined in 71 of Wisconsinโ€™s 72 counties from March to April, according to the Department of Workforce Development.
