(JUNEAU) Correctional officers in Dodge County now have a closer, more affordable way to train — and the first group to take advantage of it just graduated.
Four Dodge County correctional officers — Thomas Ashley, Nick Weinberger, William Gullion, and Nathan Fettig — completed a new 200-hour Jail Officer Academy offered through Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac. It’s the first time a program like this has been available in the region, saving local agencies the travel and lodging costs that usually come with required training.
The academy pulls in officers from several counties. This inaugural class included participants from Fond du Lac, Dodge, and Chippewa counties, giving officers a chance to learn alongside colleagues they often work with across jurisdictions.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office also played a direct role in shaping the course. Two of the academy’s instructors come from the department, helping guide new officers entering a field where staffing and training needs continue to grow.
County officials say the local academy should make it easier — and cheaper — for agencies to prepare new correctional staff while keeping training standards high.
