(Waupun) The daughter of a former Waupun Correctional Institute inmate who killed himself in 2023 is urging lawmakers to act. Megan Kolb says the death of her father Dean Hoffman could have been prevented.
“In an effort to try to understand why my dad would take such a drastic measure we began the agonizing quest into getting his records I found that they had missed his medications more often than they gave them to him he had no Psych Exam and he was ignored when he asked for help”
At the Capitol on Tuesday, the Assembly Committee on Corrections heard from inmate families and former Department of Corrections staff. The DOC is under increased scrutiny following the recent death of a Lincoln Hills youth prison counselor, and the filing of criminal charges against several staff at Waupun Correctional Institute in connection to the deaths of two inmates.
