Late TD Pushes Sun Prairie West Past Golden Beavers

Sun Prairie West’s Jonathan Weah’s 34 yard touchdown run with 2:09 left in the fourth quarter lifted the Wolves past the Beaver Dam High School football team 21-14 on Friday night at HH Derleth Field

The first quarter featured each team’s offense only touching the ball one time.  Beaver Dam had a long drive come up empty, then Sun Prairie went on a 17-play drive that crossed over into the 2nd quarter that ended on a blocked field goal.

Sun Prairie West finally got on the board with eight minutes left in the half when QB Brady Rhoades connected with John Hamilton on a 40 yard TD pass down the left sideline.  Beaver Dam countered as Eli Bryant found Kyler Keel on a four yard pass to even the score at 7-7 with :30 left in the half.

The Wolves Jay Dayne gave Sun Prairie a 13-7 lead with a 13 yard scoring run with 9:23 left in the 3rd, but the extra point was blocked.   BD once again had a counter punch as Camron Mendoza capped a 10-play drive by punching it on from two yards out with 4:34 left in the 3rd.  Dane Stanul’s extra-point gave BD the 14-13 lead.

Sun Prairie West was able to pull ahead with 2:09 left in the 4th quarter as senior running back Jonathan Weah broke multiple tackles on his way to a 34 yard TD run.  Rhoads hit Ean Ackley for the two point conversion to give the Wolves the 21-14 lead.

Beaver Dam wouldn’t go down without a fight as they were able to drive to the Wolves 22, but Eli Bryant’s 4th down pass to Kyler Keel in the end zone with less than a minute to go fell incomplete.

Sun Prairie West (Overall: 4-3, Badger Large: 2-3) outgained BD 393-232 on the day.  Jay Dayne carried it 22 times for 148 yards and a touchdown, while QB Brady Rhoads threw for 178 yards and a TD

Camron Mendoza had 135 yards and a TD on 28 carries.  Kyler Keel caught three passes for 26 yards and a TD.

The loss drops Beaver Dam to 1-6 on the season and 1-4 in the Badger Large. Four of the Golden Beavers losses this season have been by less than seven points
