A pair of area student-athletes have earned All–Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors in men’s basketball.
Hustisford native and 2021 graduate Dylan Kuehl capped his graduate season at Northern Michigan with two of the league’s top awards. Kuehl was named GLIAC Player of the Year and GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to earning First Team All-GLIAC honors.
In conference play, Kuehl ranked first in scoring at 23.8 points per game, third in blocked shots at 1.5 per game, and eighth in defensive rebounds with 4.5 per contest.
Beaver Dam High School alum Nate Abel, a 2021 graduate, was named to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team. Abel started all 30 regular-season games and finished third in the conference with 213 total rebounds. He ranked second in the GLIAC in defensive rebounds per game (6.13), fifth in rebounding overall (7.1 rpg), and seventh in total steals (40).

Both Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech will travel to North Canton, Ohio, for the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament this weekend. On Saturday, No. 3 seed Michigan Tech will face No. 6 seed Lake Erie in the opening round. Also on Saturday, No. 5 seed Northern Michigan will take on No. 4 seed Rockhurst in its NCAA tournament opener.
