It was a record setting night for Beaver Dam sophomore running back Gabe Klatt as the Golden Beavers rallied for a 38-27 win over Janesville Craig (Overall: 3-4, Badger Large 3-2) at HH Derleth Field.
Gabe Klatt carried the ball 35 times for a school record 398 yards and a school record six touchdowns as the Golden Beavers moved to within one win of clinching a WIAA playoff spot.
Beaver Dam trailed Craig 21-12 at half, but Beaver Dam outscored the Cougars 26-7 after halftime to grab the win. BDHS outgained Craig 434 to 390 on the day.
Klatt’s 398 rushing yards bested RJ Shelton’s 329 yards against Watertown in 2011 to shatter the program’s single game mark. Klatt’s six rushing TDs broke the previous mark of 5, which had been done eight times in school history, most recently by RJ Shelton in 2012 vs. Waupun. Shelton for 5 TDs, four total times during his time at BDHS. Devin Kellenberger did it twice in 2008 while Time White 1979, and Dave Berg 1962 also hit paydirt six times on the ground in a game.
Craig’s Caleb Brager caught 7 passes for 138 yards, and two TDs whie Jake Schaffner ran for a pair of Cougar scores.
Beaver Dam (Overall: 4-3, Badger Large: 3-2) can clinch a playoff spot next Friday night when they host Janesville Parker for Homecoming. That game kicks off at 7pm. You can watch it on DailyDodge TV presented by Columbus Family Dental and the Beaver Dam Unified School District.
