Ina Mae Helmer

Ina Mae Helmer, age 93 of Fox Lake, passed away at the farm on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Ina was born at home in Fox Lake on December 18, 1931, the daughter of Chester and Edna (Hill) Lyle. She lived most of her life on the home farm and the Helmer farm in the Fox Lake area. On June 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to her husband, Alvin A. Helmer, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fox Lake. They lived in the Friesland area until buying their present farm in 1960. Ina was quite proud of designing her home. She also had a passion for local and family history and genealogy and loved to share it. Her collection of genealogy and history was extensive.

Ina is survived by her children, Sherry and Diane, who she lived with; Terry (Lori) of Randolph, and Joseph (Lisa) of Waupun; grandchildren, Crystal, Michelle (Gabe) Gauger with their children, Mason, Layne, and Sawyer; Jennifer (Lex Cathcart) Helmer, with Stone; Nena Lotzer, with Elliot and Allison; Theresa (Mitch) Fry; and Myles (Mika Allard); and further survived by many other family members and friends, and her protector: her dog, Auggie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, in 2011; her parents; her brother, Donald; many sisters- and brothers-in-law; and other family members and friends.

Visitation for Ina will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the farm, N10791 Cty Rd FF, Fox Lake, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Fox Lake.

The family would like to extend a big thank you to Ina’s wonderful friend, Julie Flemming, who shared a visit on Fridays to share their great love of the area’s history and genealogy.
